JAMERICA AAU TOURNAMENT/SATURDAY BALL/LEAGUE RULES

All tournaments are played under National High School Federation rules, except for the following exceptions.

All players and coaches must have AAU membership to compete.

At check in, each coach must provide the following forms to a JAMERICA BASKETBALL representative prior to tournament participation:

    1.  Official typed or printed roster (15 players maximum)
     2.  Registration form.
     3.  Birth Certificates for all players.
     4.  Payment receipt.

You also need to provide:

1. Print Official Scoresheet for each game:
2. A responsible person to respresent your team at the table for each game

NOTE: It is the responsibility of the Head Coach to have these forms in a folder prior to each tournament. This will allow the JAMERICA BASKETBALL representatives to check the forms and expedite the registration process.  Keep the folder with you throughout each tournament, in case a protest is filed, or we otherwise find a need to recheck your documents.  Any team caught violating the age rules will forfeit their remaining games, with no refund.  We will also report them to other basketball sanctioning boards.

Age Requirements:

AAU AGE DETERMINATION (Boys & Girls)
***The standard AAU definition will be honored for boys & girls.
***A copy of birth certificates & progress reports are required to verify eligibility.

ROSTERS/BENCH COACHES:

Each team is allowed one head coach, and two assistant coaches. A trainer is also allowed, but must sit either behind, or at the player's end of the bench.  All bench personnel must be wearing dress pants or dress shorts, have a collared shirt, and either tennis shoes or dress shoes.  No hats are allowed.

Maximum 15 players per roster. Coaches must have printed/typed copy in numerical order to give to scorekeeper.
HOME/VISITOR TEAM RESPONSIBILITY:

First or top team listed will be home team. Home team wears light color uniform.

Home team is responsible for the game ball (see Ball Specification's).  Home team is also responsible for providing a qualified person to serve as the official statskeeper.

Visiting team will wear dark color uniform.  The Visiting team is responsible for providing a qualified person to serve as the official score board operator

Each coach is responsible for the players, assistant coaches, staff, and parents of his/her team. Any misconduct on or off the court will result in immediate dismissal and/or disqualification from tournament. The tournament site director will have the final authority to remove or disqualify any team. Note: In the event of disqualification, tournament fees or any other refund will NOT be issued! No Exceptions!

LENGTH OF GAMES/BALL SPECIFICATION:

All games will be played on 10 ft. regulation height baskets.

FOULS:

Each player is allowed 5 fouls.  Then they sit for the game.  Technicals on players also count as a personal foul.

TEAM FOULS/BONUS:   One and one begins with 8 fouls.  Double bonus begins with 12 fouls.

TECHNICALS:  Coaches must sit the remainder of the game after the draw a technical.  Coaches are banned from the gym for the remainder of the tournament once they draw a second technical.  Same goes for the players.  If any player or coach receives two technicals, they will face additional punishment, up to including a ban from all future JAMERICA BASKETBALL events.

BOYS & GIRLS TEAMS:

Divisions 8U-12U will play two 14 minute halves, using the 28.5" official intermediate size ball.

Divisions 13U-17U will play two 16 minute halves, using the official high school size ball.

All girl divisions will use the 28.5" official intermediate size ball.

Pre-Game Warm Up: Pre game warm up time will consist of 5 minutes. The tournament site director may shorten this time if need be.

Half Time: Half time will be 5 minutes. This may be shortened at the discretion of the site tournament director .

Overtime: Two, Two (2) minute overtimes will be allowed. If teams are still tied after the second overtime, the "sudden death" format will be used with the first team scoring a basket being declared the winners.

30 Point Lead: If at any time during the game, a team establishes a 30 point lead, the clock will continue to run with the exception of a time out being called. If the point lead is reduced below 20, normal clock operation will resume. Note: Team that is winning by 30 points will not be allowed to press full court until the margin is falls below 20 points!

Time Outs: You will get 4 full time-outs.  These may be used in either half.

One (1) additional timeout is given for each overtime period.

TIE BREAKER POLICY:

When determining which team gets the higher seed out of "pool play," JAMERICA BASKETBALL will first look to head-to-head competition.  If one team has a better record versus the other, that team will get the higher seed in "tournament play."  If seeding can not be determined by head-to-head competition, it will be determined by point differential, with a plus or minus 15 maximum.
At the end of "pool play," JAMERICA BASKETBALL will determine the order for bracket play, using the above format.   If this does not determine the tie-breaker, JAMERICA BASKETBALL officers will have a coin flip to determine the higher seed.  Coaches will be notified of their seed and what time they play.

UNIFORMS:

Each team must have either a reversible jersey, and/or have both a light and dark set of uniforms.

It is required that a number be on the back of the jersey. It's highly recommended that a number be on the front of the jersey as well.

COACHING ATTIRE:

All coaches, including assistant coaches, trainers, ball boys, and other bench personnel are required to wear long pants or nice "golf" type shorts, and a collared shirt. Shoes must include either tennis shoes or dress shoes. Absolutely no jeans, cut offs, tank tops, baseball caps, skull caps, beachwear, or sweatsuits. No open shoes, sandals, flip flops, etc. will be allowed. Any coach or other bench personnel not observing this rule will not be allowed to remain on the bench.

GYMS/ARENAS/FACILITIES:

Some of the gyms/facilities that are used by JAMERICA BASKETBALL will not have access to locker rooms. Teams must arrive at the gym prepared to play.

Any misconduct, vandalism, etc. made by any coach, player, staff, or parent to any JAMERICA BASKETBALL facility will lead to immediate dismissal and removal from facility.

FORFEITS:

Teams and coaches must be in the gym, ready to play at their designated times and places.

JAMERICA BASKETBALL will allow a five minute delay in regards to game starting time. This simply means, that if a team is not at the designated court at the correct time, or five minutes after designated time, the team that is late or not there will forfeit that game an issued a loss for that game.

If the game before your game is running into your time slot, teams must be prepared to tip off no later than 5 minutes after late game is completed.

If a referee or tournament director has to forfeit a game due to misconduct or inappropriate behavior, team receiving the forfeit will also be issued a loss.

**If your team has to forfeit, there will be NO refunds issued for the tournament fee. No Exceptions!

Any misconduct or inappropriate behavior during a JAMERICA BASKETBALL tournament weekend, either on or off the court will be the responsibility of the Head Coach of the team acting inappropriately. This would include any misconduct at the JAMERICA BASKETBALL gyms, restaurants, Hotels, etc. that are affiliated with the JAMERICA BASKETBALL during the scheduled weekend of tournament.

TOURNAMENT WITHDRAWAL POLICY:

Due to the extreme amount of time and effort it takes to schedule and organize a tournament, JAMERICA BASKETBALL has adopted the following withdrawal policy:

*If a team withdraws on or before the entry deadline, JAMERICA BASKETBALL will issue a refund 80 percent of fees. Coach or team representative must email the JAMERICA BASKETBALL corporate headquarters at e-mail the withdrawal request to: j.beller@comcast.net

*If a team withdraws after the entry deadline, NO refund will be issued, however, entry fee may be applied to a future JAMERICA BASKETBALL tournament.

This policy may be modified by the tournament director if he/she deems extenuating circumstances to be the cause of the withdrawal. This decision would be at the discretion of the tournament director.

PROTESTS:

Player Eligibility: All protests concerning the eligibility of any player must be written, accompanied by a $100 protest fee, and delivered to the JAMERICA BASKETBALL tournament director by the protesting Head Coach only. This protest MUST be made prior the start of the game. There will be no protests concerning player eligibility after a game.

The decision on the protest will be made by the tournament director in a timely manner before protested game. If the tournament director rules in favor of the protesting Head Coach, the $100 protest fee will be refunded. The JAMERICA BASKETBALL tournament director will have the final authority in regards to the protest.

TOURNAMENT CONDUCT:

Misconduct or inappropriate behavior by parents, players or coaches during a JAMERICA BASKETBALL tournament weekend, either on or off the court, will be the responsibility of the Head Coach of the team acting inappropriately. This includes any misconduct at the JAMERICA BASKETBALL gyms, restaurants, hotels, etc. that are affiliated with the JAMERICA BASKETBALL during the scheduled weekend of tournament.

CHECK BELOW FOR THIS WEEK'S SCHEDULE:
The schedule is normally posted LATE WEDNESDAY.  All teams playing are to check the schedule and report any problems by NOON on Thursday.   The official schedule will be posted late Thursday evening.    All teams should recheck the schedule for any potential changes last minute before heading to the gyms.

ISSUES:
1.  Do not forget to download and print your scoresheets.
2.  The Home Team (first team listed) must provide a person at the table to serve official statskeeper, while the visiting team (second team listed) will provide a person to serve as the clock operator (The refs show you how.   It is simple as long as you pay attention).  The Stats Keeper and Clock Operator should work together to help provide an honest, professional and efficient table for each game.
3.  Clean up behind your bench at the games.
4.  Head coaches control your assistants, players and parents.  Keep it about the kids!
5.  No food or drinks can be brought in the gyms!!!!!!!  The only exception is team coolers for your players.
6.  COACHES, deal with your PARENTS when it comes to WHINING about the referees.
7.  Let's keep this simple.  The referees are there to REF.  The players are there to PLAY.  The coaches are there to COACH.  The SPECTATATORS are there to support their team in a positive manner.  Any variation from this will result in a warning to the bench, and then a technical on the bench.  Spectators who cause this will be ejected from all gyms during remainder of the tournament.
8.  All teams are to check in with Nicola or Alex prior to your first game of the season.
9.  Please read the Rules.

ALL SCORES and game day problems are to be TEXTED TO NICOLA at the following phone number: 404-271-4295 (this number is only used on game day).
When games are NOT going on, contact us at our office number: 404-806-5819.)

READ the schedule over and report any legitimate problems immediately by EMAILBy legitimate, we mean not enough games, too many games, scheduled in two places at once, etc.  We do not mean your star player is playing soccer, volleyball, baseball, ping pong, running track or bowling at the time you are scheduled to play basketball.  Prior to the tournament, please email all questions related to the tournament to:   j.beller@jamerica.org  or  aau@jamericabasketball.com

****All teams are to provide a scorekeeper/clock operator and a completed official JAMERICA BASKETBALL scoresheet a minimum of ten minutes before all start times, or as soon as the prior game is completed.  Delaying the game past schedule start time while you complete your scoresheet may result in a technical to start the game.

****The Jamerica AAU Basketball League expects players, coaches and fans to behave in a civil manner.  We endorse the competitive spirit, but players who cuss & whine about calls will be called for technicals.  Coaches who cuss and want to challenge every single call will receive a technical.  Any parents that berate any player, coach or ref will be banned from all our events.  The worse side of competitive sports makes us all look bad.  Understand that we will not tolerate it!
