JAMERICA AAU TOURNAMENTS/SATURDAY BALL/LEAGUE RULES

All tournaments are played under National High School Federation rules, except for the following exceptions.

All players and coaches must have AAU membership to compete.

At check in, each coach must provide the following forms to a JAMERICA BASKETBALL representative prior to tournament participation:

     1.  Official typed or printed roster (15 players maximum)
     2.  Registration form.
     3.  Birth Certificates for all players.
     4.  Payment receipt.

****All these forms must be provided at check in, or team will not be allowed to participate.

NOTE: It is the responsibility of the Head Coach to have these forms in a folder prior to each tournament. This will allow the JAMERICA BASKETBALL representatives to check the forms and expedite the registration process.  Keep the folder with you throughout each tournament, in case a protest is filed, or we otherwise find a need to recheck your documents.  Any team caught violating the age rules will forfeit their remaining games, with no refund.  We will also report them to other basketball sanctioning boards.

Age Requirements:

AAU AGE DETERMINATION (Boys & Girls)
***The standard AAU definition will be honored for boys & girls.
***A copy of birth certificates is required to verify eligibility.

Visiting team will wear dark color uniform.  The Visiting team is responsible for providing a qualified person to serve as the official statskeeper.

Each coach is responsible for the players, assistant coaches, staff, and parents of his/her team. Any misconduct on or off the court will result in immediate dismissal and/or disqualification from tournament. The tournament site director will have the final authority to remove or disqualify any team. Note: In the event of disqualification, tournament fees or any other refund will NOT be issued! No Exceptions!

LENGTH OF GAMES/BALL SPECIFICATION:

All games will be played on 10 ft. regulation height baskets.

TEAM FOULS/BONUS:   One and one begins with 8 fouls.  Double bonus begins with 12 fouls.

TECHNICALS:  Coaches must sit the remainder of the game after the draw a technical.  Coaches are banned from the gym for the remainder of the tournament once they draw a second technical.  Same goes for the players.  If any player or coach receives two technicals, they will face additional punishment, up to including a ban from all future JAMERICA BASKETBALL events.

BOYS & GIRLS TEAMS:

Divisions 13U-17U will play two 16 minute halves, using the official high school size ball.

All girl divisions will use the 28.5" official intermediate size ball.

Pre-Game Warm Up: Pre game warm up time will consist of 5 minutes. The tournament site director may shorten this time if need be.

Half Time: Half time will be 5 minutes. This may be shortened at the discretion of the site tournament director .

Overtime: Two, Two (2) minute overtimes will be allowed. If teams are still tied after the second overtime, the "sudden death" format will be used with the first team scoring a basket being declared the winners.

30 Point Lead: If at any time during the game, a team establishes a 20 point lead, the clock will continue to run with the exception of a time out being called. If the point lead is reduced below 20, normal clock operation will resume. Note: Team that is winning by 30 points will not be allowed to press full court until the margin is falls below 20 points!

Time Outs: You will get 4 full time-outs.  These may be used in either half.

One (1) additional timeout is given for each overtime period.

TIE BREAKER POLICY:

When determining which team gets the higher seed out of "pool play," JAMERICA BASKETBALL will first look to head-to-head competition.  If one team has a better record versus the other, that team will get the higher seed in "tournament play."  If seeding can not be determined by head-to-head competition, it will be determined by point differential, with a plus or minus 15 maximum.
At the end of "pool play," JAMERICA BASKETBALL will determine the order for bracket play, using the above format.   If this does not determine the tie-breaker, JAMERICA BASKETBALL officers will have a coin flip to determine the higher seed.  Coaches will be notified of their seed and what time they play.

UNIFORMS:

Each team must have either a reversible jersey, and/or have both a light and dark set of uniforms.

It is required that a number be on the back of the jersey. It's highly recommended that a number be on the front of the jersey as well.

COACHING ATTIRE:

All coaches, including assistant coaches, trainers, ball boys, and other bench personnel are required to wear long pants or nice "golf" type shorts, and a collared shirt. Shoes must include either tennis shoes or dress shoes. Absolutely no jeans, cut offs, tank tops, baseball caps, skull caps, beachwear, or sweatsuits. No open shoes, sandals, flip flops, etc. will be allowed. Any coach or other bench personnel not observing this rule will not be allowed to remain on the bench.

GYMS/ARENAS/FACILITIES:

Some of the gyms/facilities that are used by JAMERICA BASKETBALL will not have access to locker rooms. Teams must arrive at the gym prepared to play.

Any misconduct, vandalism, etc. made by any coach, player, staff, or parent to any JAMERICA BASKETBALL facility will lead to immediate dismissal and removal from facility.

FORFEITS:

Teams and coaches must be in the gym, ready to play at their designated times and places.

JAMERICA BASKETBALL will allow a five minute delay in regards to game starting time. This simply means, that if a team is not at the designated court at the correct time, or five minutes after designated time, the team that is late or not there will forfeit that game an issued a loss for that game.

If the game before your game is running into your time slot, teams must be prepared to tip off no later than 5 minutes after late game is completed.

If a referee or tournament director has to forfeit a game due to misconduct or inappropriate behavior, team receiving the forfeit will also be issued a loss.

**If your team has to forfeit, there will be NO refunds issued for the tournament fee. No Exceptions!

Any misconduct or inappropriate behavior during a JAMERICA BASKETBALL tournament weekend, either on or off the court will be the responsibility of the Head Coach of the team acting inappropriately. This would include any misconduct at the JAMERICA BASKETBALL gyms, restaurants, Hotels, etc. that are affiliated with the JAMERICA BASKETBALL during the scheduled weekend of tournament.

****All teams are to provide a scorekeeper/clock operator and a completed official JAMERICA BASKETBALL scoresheet a minimum of ten minutes before all start times, or as soon as the prior game is completed.  Delaying the game past schedule start time while you complete your scoresheet may result in a technical to start the game.

****The Jamerica AAU Basketball League expects players, coaches and fans to behave in a civil manner.  We endorse the competitive spirit, but players who cuss & whine about calls will be called for technicals.  Coaches who cuss and want to challenge every single call will receive a technical.  Any parents that berate any player, coach or ref will be banned from all our events.  The worse side of competitive sports makes us all look bad.  Understand that we will not tolerate it!
